Recognize a Stroke

A stroke can come on very suddenly without warning - that's why it's so called as it can come on 'at a stroke'. It is important to recognize if someone may be having a Stroke then act quickly.

The recognition and action for a stroke is summarized by FAST

Face
Has the face drooped to one side? Can they smile? Can they stick their tongue out?
Arms
Can they raise their arms equally and hold for a few seconds? Do they have normal strength in both hands?
Speech
Is their speech slurred? Can they remember simple facts like where they are or what day it is?<
Time
If not, it's TIME to call 999

If they are conscious, they should remain sitting comfortably or lying down with the head raised.

If they are unconscious and breathing normally, put in recovery position.

Be prepared to start CPR if they stop breathing - send someone for the AED
