  • Can I do any harm?
    • The AED is designed to monitor the electrical activity of the heart and will only allow you to administer a shock if it detects certain electrical anomalies in the casualty - it will never allow a shock if the casualty has a normal heart rhythm. You are more likely to do harm if you drop the machine on your foot.
  • Who can use the AED?
    • It is a Public Access Defibrillator so any member of the public is allowed to use it. The machine is housed in locked cabinet so you need to call 999 to be given the access code - his serves two functions in that access is controlled and the ambulance service has been informed.
  • Do I need special training?
    • Anyone can use the AED whether they are trained or not. The machine comes with pictorial instructions and give appropriate voice prompts - if someone's life is in the balance it is better to have a go than not try at all. Of course, being trained in its used has advantages and training can be arranged upon request.
  • How old do you have to be?
    • There is no age limit - upper or lower. Anyone, who is willing, can save a life.
